Brave, Independent Vivian

It was a busy Friday.  I hit the grocery store with all three kids solo and then we headed to the pedi for Pip and Viv's 5 and 3 year well visits respectively.  I think it was about 45 minutes in the room waiting for the doctor to come in and they were entertaining me with all kinds of games.  The main one was pretending the bed/table was a rocket ship.  Had to climb up and blast off many, many times -- we went to Mars and Earth and back again.  Plus we inspected the large scale ear model in depth and turned the lights on and off 100 times.

At the end of the visit Pip passed his hearing test in BOTH ears (yay!), Vivie got one shot without flinching -- but did make her angry face at the pure gall of it all, and both had to leave urine and blood samples.  I had Vivie do the blood sample first.  This was wise because after the initial prick she was completely calm as the nurse extracted the blood into the tub.  Pip was freaked out watching her so she even tried to reassure him ... "It doesn't hurt Pip!!!".  Pip was not convinced.  He required full 5 point restraints from me and screamed in agony the entire time.

Another cute exchange:
Pedi to Viv:  What is the biggest number?
Viv: 5!
Pedi:  Can you count to five?
Viv:  Yes!
Pedi:  Will you count to five for me?
Viv:  Yes .... one, two, three, four, five!
Pedi:  Good job!
Pip:  The biggest number is five HUNDRED!

Luckily Daddy was home with Megan because the visit took forever and required all my attention nearly all the time.

After dinner later there were baths for all and Pip and Vivie climbed up onto the big chair in Meg's room for family books.  It was the first time I read books to all three of them together.  Pip and Viv left as I put Meg down and then I came downstairs to find this on the couch:

Pip made sly and quiet as Dad found a kids movie on Starz (Ponyo).  He knows when he's getting a treat and he acts all steady so as not to rock the boat and be sent to bed.  Quiet as a mouse as Dad becomes interested in the video himself and the next thing you know it is 10pm and Pip got a movie night!

Meanwhile, as the video was getting started I asked both where Vivie was and they just shrugged.  I started searching and found this up in her room I think not 5 minutes from when she had walked out of Meg's room after books:

The poor sweet put her own self to bed without a word to anyone!
