Our very first pictures of Megan Louise. Being prepped by Marissa, aka the Sea of Bitterness. We were still debating names up until even after she was born. Probably an hour before she arrived Phil was looking up name meanings on his phone and saw one of his fav's, Marissa, meant Sea of Bitterness according to Baby Name Wizard. We thought that was hysterical. Then during the final moments as I was in extreme pain and about to push, I mumbled to Phil, "This is a sea of bitterness" and we both chuckled to ease the agony. Literally 5 seconds later an extra nurse walked in to help as she came out and announced cheerily "Hi, I'm Marissa, here to help with the delivery!" Simultaneously our main nurse was asking me to push but I started laughing so hard I couldn't concentrate. Phil broke out laughing at my laughing and we were both pieces of work. Our OB and the nurses were completely confused -- here I was moaning in pain one moment and now laughing hysterically the next and as far as they could tell, nothing had happened. We pulled ourselves together and I pushed at the next contraction and Megan popped right out. Cord wrapped around her neck but not tightly and Dr. Bose slipped it off and scooped her up. So that's how Marissa lighted the mood for everyone just as Megan came into the world. For the record, once everything was settled she got her baby name book and confirmed that Marissa means Sea Star. Apparently Mara means bitter. I'm still not convinced.
