First Day of First Grade!

My big man was ready for his frist day of First Grade.  No jitters at all, ran right in with his friends.  Seems we are all a bit more relaxed this year!

He picked out his outfit the night before and I had his backpack all set to go.

Viv and Meg gave him a good send-off.

The arrow had to stay in the car.

Rose:  Making friends with a new boy named Duncan.
Thorn:  Everyone put their favorite books in a bin (he took in his little book of Knock, Knock jokes) and then picked out someone else's to read.  No one picked his book.  It was the only one left in the bin.

Cinderella

Vivie is smack inthe middle of a fierce Princess Phase.  Her favorites are Cinderella and Snow White, but the truth is she loves them all.  Favorite Prince is Prince Philip, hands down.  :)

Frontier Town!

We spent the last weekend of summer camping near Ocean City, MD at a campground called Frontier Town.  There was an awesome splash park and a Wild West Themed park that were tons of fun.  But the best part was seeing our cousins!

We got a huge tent for Pip, Viv, me, and Phil.  We took this pup tent for Meg, which fit her pack n plat perfectly.  She did great this year, slept through each night like a champ.

Dogs on the fire pit!

The adults feasted on lobster, clams, shrimp, and crab legs.  Yum!!

Riding the stagecoach ...

... courtesy of some help from behind!

Meg LOVED the little water slide at the splash park.  Every time we picked ourselves up she'd sign "more, more" and lean her body over to the slide.  I think between Phil and I we did it a hundred times.

Pip took the slide running, frontwards, sidewards, and backwards.

Uncle George on the Lazy River.

Pip helped escort Meggie out at the end of the day.  She loves her big brother!

Getting dinner ready.

At one point there was a big bottle of dish detergent by the spigot ... them Meg found it and dumped the whole thing on the picnic table bench.  Got more clean than necessary.

Viv was very much into pictures this weekend, asking for close-up portraits.  Lots of them.

The Wild West ... there's about to be a jail break.  We tried to wake the guard up!!

Meg shouted with glee every time she spotted horses.  Which was frequently.

We all got guns, and we weren't afraid to use them!

George was lured into a shoot out.  Did pretty well.

I didn't seem to understand the rules.  First I shot too soon, then I shot too late.  Looks like I would not have made a good Annie Oakley.

Meg took a shine to George.

Deputies.

Meg loved the horses but had no interest in touching them!

Our train got held up!  These little cowboys and cowgirls stayed strong and would not give up the treasure now matter how much that bandit pressured them.  Rhiannon:  "Seriously.  Seriously.  We don't have any treasure!"  Even when threatened to shoot their little toes off!  When he finally made them stand we told him it was relaly a box of dirty diapers.  That sent him running!

Cousins.

Our last day was basically rain on and off all day.  Then around 6, when we thought it was almost over the monsoon hit.  Torrential downpours for about 5 hours.  The campsite was completely flooded.

Staying dry in the camper.  Thank goodness for campers!

Assessing the damage.

Meg was in this pup tent until about 5 minutes before this picture was taken.  Fast alseep and happy as a clam.  But the big tent was literally collapsing between the rain and the wind and the water table was rising, finally we had to pull her in!

No worries, I'll sleep anywhere.  Even here on the futon while you guys play Munchkin Quest two feet away.
